Vice President, Technologies fund (2 openings)

Novacap is looking to fill 2 Vice President positions for the Technologies fund.

The Vice President plays a key role in the execution and management of private equity investments, primarily in Canada and the United States.

The main responsibilities of these roles are to :

Investment Execution

Evaluating and executing investment opportunities, including:

  • Strategic, operational, and financial due diligence.
  • Deal structuring.                          
  • Presenting investment recommendations to the investment committee.
  • Negotiating with target company, shareholders, and third parties.
  • Raising capital (debt and equity).
  • Supporting Partners in negotiating transaction documentation.
  • Quarterbacking the entire deal team.
  • Coordinating third-party advisors.
  • Work closely with senior members in the formulation of investment theses, support organization origination/sourcing process and portfolio construction.

Post-investment Portfolio Company Support

  • Active role on board of directors.
  • Engage with portfolio companies, evaluating financial/operational performance, supporting value creation planning, and participating in the recruitment and onboarding of key hires.
  • Responsible for implementing Novacap best practices such as playbooks.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders in the sector of the portfolio companies.
  • Play a key role in strategic planning, including, portfolio company acquisition, and exits, as well as supporting financing.

Other Firm-Wide Initiatives

  • Key involvement in fund level initiatives, such fund raising, recruiting, and sourcing.
  • Manages and develops Associates and Senior Associates to perform analysis, due diligence, and transaction support on deals, providing training and development.

For this role, we are looking for someone who has:

  • More than 8 years of relevant experience (PE, investment banking, corporate M&A, VC/growth equity, consulting).
  • Demonstrable record of successfully leading the underwriting and the execution of private equity, corporate or related long-duration investments (M&A).
  • Ability to develop, maintain and defend an investment thesis.
  • Investment judgment to analyze industries and businesses deeply and thoroughly (i.e. understanding the components and drivers of success beyond the financials).
  • Successful experience managing deal teams, including analyst, associates and third parties.
  • High interpersonal skills to be successful and building relationships with industry participants (e.g. attend trade shows).
  • University degree in finance, engineering, business, economics or related field. MBA, CPA, CBV, CFA would be an asset.

  • Presence and self-confidence to interface with the key constituents of the firm including entrepreneurs, C-level executives of companies, intermediaries, co-investors, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player and the potential to become a senior investment team member.
